Jake Fox In Right Field?

The Cubs are looking for some assistance to their slumping offense, and there's one bat that could possibly give them a nice boost with that in Jake Fox. However, Fox plays defense like Carl Lewis sings national anthems(or throws first pitches). Still, the guy led all of the triple crown categories not just in the Pacific Coast League, but in the entire minors, and it's possible his offensive talent could outweigh his defensive woes.

Well the Cubs apparently might be willing to test that out tomorrow, by starting Fox in right field:

"Our problem here is that in the areas he plays, we have more depth than anywhere else," manager Lou Piniella said. "There's a possibility I'll just put him out there in right field."

"Look, he deserves a chance to play up here," Piniella said. "It's just a question of whether the team is put together the right way to utilize his skills. We get into interleague play a little, assuming he's still here, we can put him in the DH spot. We like Jake."

It's a left-hander on the mound in rookie Matt Maloney, Milton Bradley's still out, and anybody that's seen much of Micah Hoffpauir can tell he's not exactly comfortable in the box against southpaws. Just going with Reed Johnson and Kosuke Fukudome in centerfield and right field seems like a fine idea, but it's about as good of a chance as any to see what Fox can do out there.

The idea of Alfonso Soriano and Jake Fox cornering the outfield would have Tom Emanski slamming his head against the wall, so they better each swing the bats whenever this happens. I highly doubt Fox gets more than a few starts there though, even if he looks like he can adequately handle the position tomorrow night. That is if he plays of course, and if not, thanks for making me spend thirty minutes to write this Lou.
