New Cubs outfielder Xavier Nady could see his first playing time of Spring Training on Thursday according to manager Lou Piniella:
"The only problem [with Wednesday] is the 'Big Z' is pitching," Piniella said. "Thursday might be a good day to start [Nady]. Give Big Z an at-bat or two and he'll be very happy."Link(Muskat Ramblings- MLB.Com)
The 31-year-old Nady signed a one-year, $3.3 million contract with the Cubs in January. He is coming off Tommy John surgery(his second) and only played seven games due to the injury for the Yankees in 2009. In 2008 with the Yankees, he put up an impressive batting line of .305/.357/.510, with 25 homers, and 97 RBI.
When/if he's back to full health, he will have a great shot at becoming the primary right fielder for the Cubs, and at least see a very good amount of at bats regardless. If he can be anything like the hitter he was in 2008, it would be a major boost to the Cubs offense.
